About the speaker
Eugene Y. Wang is the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Professor of Asian Art at Harvard University, with appointments in History of Art and Architecture, Archaeology, the Study of Religion, Theater, Dance & Media, and Inner Asia and Altaic Studies. A Guggenheim Fellow and art history editor of the Encyclopedia of Buddhism, he is the author of Shaping the Lotus Sutra: Buddhist Visual Culture in Medieval China, recipient of Japan’s Sakamoto Nichijin Academic Achievement Award. His work reconceives art as cognitive and ecological infrastructure—fields that organize perception and worldmaking. He directs Harvard CAMLab. His exhibition Mawangdui: Art of Life (2024) drew over one million visitors and won the 2025 iF Design Award.
